Dr Chan is a highly experienced joint replacement surgeon and is now the Co-Director of the Joint Replacement Centre at Gleneagles Hospital in Hong Kong. He is well-known for his expertise in managing arthritic conditions and joint replacement surgeries.
Dr Chan is also well-known in the areas of ERAS (Enhanced Recovery After Surgery). He led the multidisciplinary team, comprising anaesthesiologists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and nurses, in overseas training at world-renowned fast-track joint replacement centres in Denmark, and learned from Prof Henrik Kehlet in 2015. After the training, an evidence-based fast-track joint replacement programme was successfully commenced at the Queen Mary Hospital, and their team is a pioneer in establishing the ERAS joint replacement programme in Hong Kong. Dr Chan and his team are also active in promulgating these concepts in Hong Kong and other countries. With their promulgation through invited talks and workshops, various hospitals have begun to run similar programmes in Hong Kong.
Dr Chan is also an active clinician-researcher. He received prestigious research awards and published more than 100 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Arthroplasty and Nature articles. He has secured research grants and donations in the development of osteoarthritis-related clinical services and research.
