Anaesthesiological professor at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University, Denmark’s main specialized hospital with 70.000 surgical procedure annually. My research was shaped from training under the supervision of Henrik Kehlet, and working with him for +20 years. I am continuing the work of heading the hospitals ERAS unit, monitoring and developing programs for all surgical procedures and now expanding into the medical area as well.

The research unit focuses on optimizing the acute postoperative phase by identification of systematically occurring early adverse events in postoperative patients and after severe medical admissions. Ongoing projects focuses on prediction and prevention of acute and persistent postoperative pain including opioid related side effects, identification of optimal perioperative care, the use of high-tech wireless monitoring with augmented AI-vital sign interpretation, to identify of patients at risk for adverse events in- and out of hospital within the WARD-project. This includes exploratory pathophysiological studies and randomized controlled trials for early staff activation, inflammatory modulation, ideal multi-modal analgesic strategies to improve pain and reduce opioid use.
