Chris Bain is a Specialist Anaesthetist and Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in the Department of Anaesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at The Alfred Hospital and School of Translational Medicine, Monash University. His research interest is the utilisation of genomic medicine methods to better define the nature of the inflammatory-immune (host) response to surgical trauma. Chris leads several genomic sub-studies of large clinical trials in perioperative medicine with analyses defining, at the genomic level, the host response to major surgical injury associated with the development of harmful postoperative systemic inflammatory dysregulation. His research has direct links to groundbreaking genomic analyses that re-defined the nature of the host response in the setting of major trauma and provides valuable insight into better predicting when and why the inflammatory immune response transitions away from being beneficial to harmful
