Dr. Kyoichi Takaori is a pancreatic surgeon with extensive experience in open, laparoscopic, and robotic surgery. His academic career includes serving as Professor of Surgery at Asahi University, Associate Professor of Surgery at Kyoto University, and Assistant Professor of Physiology and Biophysics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
Throughout his career, Dr. Takaori has focused on improving the prognosis of pancreatic cancer, conducting numerous international collaborative studies on multidisciplinary treatments. Under the guidance of Dr. Olle Ljungqvist, Dr. Kwang Yeong How, and Dr. Vera Lim Qin Yi, as a strong advocate for team-oriented, multi-modal care, he implemented Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) protocols at Nagahama City Hospital.
Dr. Takaori has held several editorial leadership roles, including Founding Editor of Surgery, Gastroenterology and Oncology, Consultant Editor of Digestive Surgery, and Vice Editor-in-Chief of Pancreatology. He currently represents the International Association of Surgeons, Gastroenterologists and Oncologists (IASGO) and the International Association of Pancreatology (IAP). In 2023, he founded ERAS® Japan and was appointed Chairman, with a mission to implement evidence-based ERAS® guidelines in medical institutions across the country.
