Gabriel Mena is a Professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine and has a dual academic appointment as a Professor in the Department of Thoracic & Cardiovascular Surgery at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Mena is the lead anesthesiologist for Enhanced Recovery Initiatives in Gynecologic, Thoracic, Plastic Reconstructive, and Breast surgery at MD Anderson and is a pioneer in innovation. Dr. Mena earned his training in anesthesiology and cardiovascular anesthesiology at Baylor College of Medicine and The Methodist DeBakey Hospital. His academic contributions include extensive publications, teaching roles, and leadership positions.
Dr. Mena has driven innovation in anesthesia for robotic surgery, goal-directed fluid therapy, and Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS). He is also a strategic advisor to the Texas Medical Center Innovation Campus. One of his passions is to advocate for pediatric cancer care by helping underprivileged children, and he is the Founder and president of the United2Cure Children Foundation.
