Dr. Soliz is Professor and Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where he leads one of the nation’s premier cancer anesthesia programs. He also serves as an Affiliate of the Institute for Data Science in Oncology, where he works to integrate advanced analytics and innovation into perioperative care.
A graduate of the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, Dr. Soliz completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Texas Health Science Center and later earned a Master of Science in Healthcare Leadership and Management. He is board certified in anesthesiology, medical quality, and patient safety, and is a Fellow of both the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the Association of Anesthesia Clinical Directors.
His academic and clinical interests focus on enhanced recovery pathways, the impact of anesthetic technique on perioperative and oncologic outcomes, acute pain management, and high-reliability operations leadership within complex surgical systems. Widely recognized for both clinical excellence and leadership, Dr. Soliz has received multiple teaching and service awards and has been named a Texas Super Doctor in consecutive years
